First proper run for a week...

Just been out for my first run since the Great North Run a week ago...left leg still aches a tiny bit, but it's still better than it was...so the moral to the story is run on an injured leg...not what your supposed to do.

School For Scandal

Went to see the Northern Broadsides production of School For Scandal last night at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. It was very amusing...it was basically about gossip and damage it can do to people and their reputations. Defiantly worth checking out.

Guess what...

The handle fell off my car door today...may be I should get rid of this car......
Fortunately the garage are going to put on a new handle free of charge, so I guess I can't complain.

Four die in Great North Run

Diggerland

While we were doing the Great North Run, Chloe was at Diggerland with her aunt. It's kind of a mini theme park based on diggers...she seemed to have a great time.

Great North Run

What a weekend...my time as 1 hour 59 mins 30 seconds, which is the slowest of the Great North Run's I've done, but considering I wasn't sure if I could even get to the end I'm pleased with the result. My leg hurt for about the first 5 miles and then it felt fine...what's that about? Hiede did it in 2 hours 35 mins, and she appears to be pleased with that.
We had lots of 'fun' travelling...after only 2 minutes on the train we were told that the Scarborough - York line was closed. This was because there had been an accident on a railway crossing at Rillington...a fatality. The story is on the BBC website here. This meant that we had to get a bus from Scarborough to Hull, which made the journey 1 hour longer than expected. We did, however, get a Virgin train from York to Darlington. It's the first time I've been on a virgin train and I must say I was impressed. The return journey was much better...but the train was late...

Setting off to Darlington for the Great North Run!

Despite my leg still hurting a bit, we're setting off to Darlington at 15:40. The plan is to stay over at Hiede's sister and get the train into Newcastle early tomorrow morning.  I am hoping for a time of 1 hr 45 mins but I doubt that will happen, I suspect I'll get to the 10 mile mark and have to stop...time will tell...

My leg hurts...

It's the Great North run on Sunday and my leg still hurts...I've not run since sunday...not sure what to do.

Took back the car today

Took the car back to the garage this morning to get some of the niggles fixed on the new car door...drove by the 'Sir Tatton Sykes memorial' which is near Sledmer. What a bizarre sight...got a courtesy car...a Fiat Punto...it doesn't go very fast...never mind, it does have a interesting display telling you what you MPG is. It looks like I'll be getting the car back on Friday...

11 September 2005

Went to Hull yesterday

it rained...Hiede went for her induction at the University. Chloe and I went shopping, bought some trainers etc., called in at the art gallery. Thee were some interesting pieces of work...

Spellbound

Just watched Spellbound a documentary on the national spelling bee in America. Definitely worth watching...it includes some interesting scenes that could be used to demonstrate competition, pressure, determination, been the odd one out.  What I liked best about it was the body language and facial expressions...I doubt any actor could come up with something that looked so real...

Need a lift!

Disaster, my lift to Newcastle for the Great North Run can't do it!

04 September 2005

Images of Jesus

It's a series of different pictures of Jesus portrayed in different ways. There's got to be a talk in that!

03 September 2005

Millon Dollar Baby

Watched Million Dollar Baby last night...what a film! It's great talk material:
  • There is a scene called 'in gratitude'. Maggie, the boxer, buys her mother a house but they don't want to know...they show no sense of gratitude.
  • At the start of the film Frank refuses to train Maggie...because she is a woman
  • The end of the film is the whole Euthanasia debate
Check it out at http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0405159/

Back from greenbelt

We got back at about 4pm last night, a bit knacked out. Everyone seems to have enjoyed it and we've definatly improved on last years organisation. I think the trick is:
  • set off early
  • carry your stuff in
  • buy the food there
  • leave the gazebo
Now thinking about what this experence means for day to day life...

27 August 2005

Day two...

Got up early and went to see the Andy Flan thing first thing...good stuff. Then went to hear John Bell speak on God's sense of humor. After wandering around, went back for the infamous pot noodle. Wow. Tried to get in Shakespear thing, but we had no chance, we did catch one hours though, which is always good.

Some more stuff to checkout later:

Also saw an interesting ideas of using SMS and worship - you are given a bag of stuff and your are guided through this act of worship using text messages. Got to try it out.

26 August 2005

Day one...

Arrived at greenbelt in good time, and we found a pitch without too much trouble - the lesson is, set off early (we set off at 7:30am and arrived at about 12:20). After going to the supermarket (this seemed to involve a lot of beer), we got down the the business of gigs and stuff. The site is lated out different this year and initialy seems like a good idea. Had a few beers..........went to hitch hikers guide alt worship event, interesting.

Places to check out later:

I also reckon that we should do some talks about body image / size etc. in the home groups. Somat to think about

Greenbelt!

We're setting off for greenbelt at 7:15am!

24 August 2005

Just got my car back...it looks better than I ever did!

23 August 2005

New wardrobe...

We finally got our new wardrobe last night...

Later on I went to the gymn and meet up wth Paul. My foot feels a bit better, tried running on it a bit. Jonathan called around and told us all about his trip to Switzerland then later on Dan came round! It's been a real night of catching up....

As my mono laser printer has packed up, I've been looking for a replacement: colour with duplex. The current hot favourate is a Samsung CLP-510 (24ppm Mono 6ppm Colour A4 Laser). I best make a decision soon.

21 August 2005

Just got back from our all age service, it was theamed on the 5 senses. 5 of our youth turned up, not bad for such a sunny day.
Went for a walk on the beach this afternoon - a nice sunny day, the tide was right out, lots of people down there. My right ankle is hurting...must be from the run yesterday!

20 August 2005

A bit knackered...

Went for a long run today! Ran from my house to scarborough in my new trainers. it took 1 hr 55 mins at 1550 kcal...feel a bit tired now.

Watched Scarface, wow what a film...I thought one of the most interesting bits was that when Tony Montana refused to help kill this man because there were kids...this man had killed loads of people in cold blood.

Anyways, still trying to sort out the greenbelt travel arangements...looks like some will be going on the train.

19 August 2005

Got up at 6 on Saturday morning to go pick up the 7.5 tonne truck to move gary to wales, and guess what, he'd only packed about 1/3 of his stuff...what fun! 11 hours later we set off to Talbot Green arriving at 2:20am! I must say it was a bit scary driving that big truck for the first time, but once I found the cruse control...wow

Landlubbers

This week Hiede and Jonathan has been doing a childrens holiday club and the chappel. They have been using the scripture union material landlubbers. They finished it all off today by doing the last bit of drama in the family service. Jonathan also did one of his songs...check it out http://www.jonathanworthington.com/ymp/live2005/index.html

04 August 2005

Oh dear...

I was driving home through Yeddingham....and look what happened to my car...

A scafolding truck decided to drive into me! Fortunatly nobody was hurt, just a bit shocked.

Now comes the nightmare of trying to sort it out...

24 July 2005

Just back from a camping weekend near Hawes in the Yorkshire dales. Weather was good, not much rain. It was good to have some time to ourselves as Chloe was at Badger camp in Thirsk. Yesterday we walked to Castle Bolton. Nice gardens. We saw a baby lama on-route. Cute.

15 July 2005

It was Pathfinders tonight....we were on the beach for a bbq and games. All was going well until we set off home....Hiede managed to slash her leg on a disposable barbeque - 4 stitches. We hadn't anticipated that...what was funny is that the young people were more interested in having a look at her leg than anything else...blood guts.... thankfully the wait was not too long at the hostpital. Shena took her through, which was a big help while I took the youth home.

The talk tonight was on the Bible - see http://www.youthideas.co.uk/yw/talk/050715-bible.shtml
